Choosing the right weapon in BGMI can be the difference between a chicken dinner and an early lobby exit. The current meta has shifted significantly with recent patches, and knowing which guns deserve your slot is critical for climbing ranks. This comprehensive tier list ranks every major BGMI weapon based on DPS, recoil control, versatility, and overall effectiveness in ranked matches.
How We Rank Weapons
Before diving into the tiers, here is how we evaluate each weapon. DPS (damage per second) is the raw output a weapon can deliver in ideal conditions. Recoil control determines how consistently you can land shots at various ranges. Versatility measures how well a weapon performs across multiple engagement distances. Ammo availability and pickup ease also factor in, because a theoretically perfect weapon means nothing if you cannot find it in the first circle.
S-Tier: The Dominant Picks
The S-tier contains weapons that define the current meta. These are the guns you should actively seek in every match, and they consistently outperform alternatives in their category.
M416 remains the undisputed king of assault rifles. With a manageable recoil pattern, solid DPS of around 414, and compatibility with every attachment slot, the M416 excels from close quarters to 200-meter sprays. Whether you are pushing compounds in Erangel or holding angles in Sanhok, the M416 delivers reliable performance. The recent patch did not touch its core stats, and that alone tells you how balanced the developers consider it. Pair it with a 3x or 6x scope and you have the most versatile loadout in the game.
AKM sits firmly in S-tier for players who can manage its recoil. Hitting for 49 per body shot with a fire rate of 593 rounds per minute, the AKM shreds opponents in close to mid-range fights. Its 7.62mm ammo means slightly fewer rounds per magazine pickup compared to 5.56mm weapons, but the raw damage output more than compensates. The AKM is especially deadly in TDM and Arena modes where engagements happen within 50 meters consistently.
M249 has climbed the ranks this season thanks to its 100-round magazine capacity. In squad matches, a player running M249 can suppress entire teams and create openings for pushes. The recoil is heavy, but in the first and second circles where fights happen at close range, spray control matters less than raw firepower. The M249 is the best weapon for wiping squads without reloading.
DP-28 continues to be a hidden gem that deserves S-tier placement. The 47-round magazine and low recoil when prone make it devastating in late circles. Many Conqueror-ranked players swear by the DP-28 as their primary weapon, and the numbers back it up. Its DPS might be slightly lower than the AKM, but the sustained fire capability gives it a practical edge in team fights.
A-Tier: Excellent but Situational
A-tier weapons are strong choices that work well in specific scenarios or for specific play styles. They are not as universally dominant as S-tier picks, but they can absolutely carry games in the right hands.
SCAR-L is the more forgiving alternative to the M416. It has slightly lower DPS at around 408, but the recoil is noticeably easier to control, especially for newer players. If you struggle with M416 sprays at 100-plus meters, the SCAR-L will feel more consistent. It is a great stepping stone weapon while you build recoil control skills.
Beryl M762 packs a punch with 47 damage per shot and a fire rate of 680. The problem has always been recoil, and the current patch did not make it any easier. However, players who master the Beryl will find it outperforms the AKM in close-range DPS. It is the weapon of choice for aggressive fraggers who thrive in close-quarters combat.
Mini14 is the best DMR in the game for most players. Its low recoil, high bullet velocity, and 20-round magazine make it the easiest marksman rifle to use effectively. For mid to long-range engagements where you need rapid follow-up shots, the Mini14 is hard to beat. It pairs perfectly with an M416 or AKM for a balanced loadout.
Vector dominates the SMG category with its insane fire rate of 1,200 rounds per minute. In close quarters, the Vector melts opponents faster than almost any other weapon. The 9mm ammo means lower per-shot damage, but the sheer volume of fire compensates. The main drawback is the 25-round default magazine, which makes an extended mag practically mandatory.
UMP45 deserves a spot in A-tier because of its versatility. It handles well at close and medium ranges, has manageable recoil, and the .45 ACP ammo hits harder than 9mm alternatives. Many players are discovering that the UMP45 is actually more consistent than the Vector in real match scenarios where you cannot always land every bullet.
B-Tier: Solid but Outclassed
B-tier weapons are perfectly usable but get outperformed by higher-tier alternatives in most situations. You will not lose a fight purely because you picked a B-tier weapon, but you are putting yourself at a disadvantage against equally skilled opponents.
M16A4 is a burst-fire rifle that rewards precision but punishes missed shots. In the hands of a player who can consistently hit all three burst shots, it competes with A-tier ARs. But in BGMI’s fast-paced meta, single-fire consistency often loses to full-auto spray. The M16A4 works best as a budget sniper when you cannot find a proper DMR.
QBU is the Sanhok-exclusive DMR that hits hard with 59 damage per shot. Its bipod attachment makes it incredibly stable when prone, but that same feature limits its usefulness in other maps and in standing engagements. If you are playing Sanhok specifically, the QBU can compete with A-tier DMRs. On other maps, you will not find it.
UMP9 used to be the go-to SMG but has been power-crept by the Vector and UMP45. It is still a reliable close-range option, especially in the early game when you need something fast. But by mid-game, you should be looking to upgrade.
S686 and S1897 shotguns are devastating at point-blank range but suffer from extreme inconsistency. The S686’s double-shot can delete any opponent, but a single miss means you are stuck in a long reload animation. The S1897 offers more rounds but a slower fire rate. Both shotguns are high-risk, high-reward weapons that work best in early-game hot drops.
Kar98k is the classic bolt-action sniper, but it falls into B-tier because the M24 and AWM outclass it in every measurable way. The Kar98k requires a headshot to knock a fully equipped opponent, and its bullet velocity makes leading targets at long range more difficult. It is still satisfying to use, but not optimal.
C-Tier: Last Resort Only
C-tier weapons are what you pick when you have no other option. They are not useless, but there is always a better alternative within arm’s reach.
VSS has the unique advantage of being completely silent and having a built-in scope. In theory, this makes it a stealth weapon. In practice, its low damage, poor bullet velocity, and limited effective range make it one of the weakest weapons in the game. The VSS is a meme weapon more than a competitive choice.
PP-19 Bizon has a generous 53-round magazine but low damage per shot and slow time-to-kill. In any direct fight against a Vector or UMP45, the Bizon loses. Its only advantage is ammo economy, which matters very little in ranked matches where you should be looting effectively.
Win94 is the weapon you find in a crate and leave behind immediately. It has a small magazine, slow fire rate, and no scope compatibility. The only players who use the Win94 are those looking for a challenge or content creators making highlight reels.
Sawed-Off is the sidearm shotgun that is worse than every primary weapon in the game. It exists as a last-ditch option, and that is exactly how you should treat it.
Meta Weapons by Range
Understanding which weapons dominate at each range helps you build the ideal loadout.
Close Range (0-50 meters): The Vector and AKM are your best friends. At this distance, DPS matters more than recoil control. The Vector’s fire rate gives it the edge in pure close-range fights, while the AKM’s damage per shot makes it more forgiving if your aim is slightly off.
Mid Range (50-150 meters): The M416 and Beryl M762 dominate here. The M416 with a 3x or 4x scope gives you the stability to land consistent sprays. The Beryl M762 requires more recoil control but delivers faster knockdowns when you connect.
Long Range (150+ meters): DMRs like the Mini14 and bolt-action snipers like the M24 rule this territory. The Mini14’s low recoil makes it the safer choice for most players, while the M24 offers higher damage per shot for headshot kills. The AWM, when available from airdrops, is the undisputed long-range champion with one-shot headshot potential against fully geared opponents.
How the Current Patch Changed the Meta
The latest BGMI patch made several adjustments that shifted weapon rankings. The M249 received a slight recoil reduction, pushing it into S-tier territory for the first time in several seasons. The Beryl M762 saw a minor nerf to its horizontal recoil, making it harder to control at longer ranges. The UMP45 got a small damage buff that brought it closer to the Vector in close-range effectiveness.
Most importantly, the patch did not touch the M416, AKM, or DP-28. These weapons have been meta-staples for multiple seasons, and their continued dominance means they are safe investments for attachment looting and practice in training mode.
Building Your Ideal Loadout
The best BGMI loadout depends on your role in the squad and the map you are playing. A balanced approach works for most situations: an S-tier AR like the M416 for mid-range engagements paired with an S-tier close-range weapon like the AKM or Vector. For more specialized roles, consider running a DMR alongside your AR to cover long-range while your squadmates handle close-range fights.
Ultimately, the best weapon is the one you can hit shots with consistently. Use this tier list as a starting point, but spend time in training mode experimenting with different combinations to find what suits your play style and sensitivity settings.
